The best in the profession

The professional skills competition among repairmen at Metafrax Chemicals has traditionally turned out to be the largest and most spectacular. At the service for maintenance and repair of equipment in process workshops (POROTS), the best professionals were identified in three areas at once – among welders, lathe operators and repairmen. The participants of the professional test were employees of the company and students of the Ural Chemical Technology College.
This year, both experienced employees, who have repeatedly risen to the professional podium, as well as young employees chose to compete for the title of the best in their profession. Taking into account UCTC students, 11 repairmen, 13 welders and 3 lathe operators toed the starting line of the competition.
All participants went through two competitive stages. A theoretical one, where they answered test questions regarding professional know-how, labour protection and the basics of lean manufacturing. At this stage, the lathe operators and repairmen also had to make a sketch of a part.
As well as a practical one. The repairmen had to make a part from several plates according to the competition drawing, the lathe operators had to turn the part, and the welders had to weld a test joint of two spools. Traditionally, welders have shown their skills in two types of welding – manual arc welding with coated electrodes and manual argon arc welding with nonconsumable electrodes.
The tasks of the competitive stages allowed each participant to show their best qualities.
- The competition was fierce, - the test was evaluated by experts, including the heads of the POROTS departments, foremen and engineers. – Experienced employees immediately took the lead, but even the young specialists were able to feel this competitive spirit and try their hand.
– We have our winners, but there are no losers. All participants have gained good experience, confirmed their competencies and professionalism and some have even improved them, - Aleskandr Eske, Deputy Technical Director for Repairs, emphasized, while ending the competition.
Together with Dmitry Kotsolainen, the chief mechanic of the enterprise, and Oleg Vityutnev, the head of POROTS, he presented the winners and prize-winners with well-deserved diplomas, prizes and medals. In addition, all competition participants received gifts, and trade union members received prizes and commendations for their successful work. Aleskandr Eske awarded the special competition prize to the most experienced participant, Nikolai Semenov, an electric welder, to loud applause from his colleagues.
